Our staff is made up of dedicated individuals who are committed, professional and goal-oriented in their quest to help student-athletes reach their highest potential. We maintain a collaborative team approach and support our colleagues both personally and professionally. Our team also has a strong commitment to excellence, with integrity at the core of everything we do.

The Office of Student-Athlete Academic Services employs 15 full-time staff members, two graduate assistants, and several tutors who provide academic support to student-athletes. As a department, our student-athletes have maintained a 13-year GPA streak greater than 3.0. During the 2023-24 academic year, 93 student-athletes graduated, 15 earned a master's degree while competing, 357 student-athletes made the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll in both the Fall and Spring semesters, and we concluded the year with a department-wide GPA of 3.29 and a combined APR score of 991.

The Student-Athlete Academic Services office also provides life skills through our West Virginia University Student-Athlete Development office. Tutoring

The mission of Student-Athlete Academic Services is to empower student-athletes to achieve excellence in the classroom, in athletic competition, in the community, and in life. We provide an inclusive and positive learning environment with the resources necessary for academic and personal growth. We promote the holistic development of transferable life skills and prepare student-athletes for a lifetime of learning.

Tutoring provides student-athletes with the assistance and encouragement needed to help them excel academically while nurturing the qualities of lifelong learning. Our tutors help their tutees clarify concepts, theories, or phenomenon's which they have encountered in class. This is achieved by engaging in interactive discourse, where the tutor facilitates and promotes the tutee to analyze and review information pertaining to a topic or course as a whole.

Student-athletes are under a great deal of pressure to perform academically and athletically; earning a degree from WVU while participating in Division I Intercollegiate Athletics is a tremendous commitment. As a tutor, it is important to understand the realities and myths about student-athletes. Student-athletes come to WVU for the same reasons as other students; they want a quality education from an institution with an outstanding reputation for academic excellence. If you are interested in being an athletics tutor, please email a completed application to Jeremy Lannon at JLannon@mail.wvu.edu.
